Indian government has taken a major step to combat cybercrime by blocking over 669,000 fake SIM cards and 132,000 IMEI numbers. This move, announced by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, aims to prevent scams like spoofed international calls, impersonation, and financial frauds. These fake SIM cards and devices were often used in crimes involving digital arrests, FedEx frauds, and impersonations of officials.
As of November 15, 2024, collaboration between government and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) has led to enhanced security against cyber threats. Additionally, Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (I4C), launched in 2021, has prevented financial losses of over ₹3,431 crore in nearly 10 lakh fraud complaints.
These initiatives highlight Centre’s commitment to safeguarding citizens from cyber threats and ensuring secure digital communication.
