In a significant step toward enhancing public service accountability, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated Assam State Commission for Right to Public Services in Guwahati. event included unveiling of a manual outlining appeal process for public service rights and Commission’s official website.
Chief Minister emphasized that good governance depends on citizens being aware of their rights and highlighted Assam’s commitment to delivering timely and efficient services. Reflecting on evolution of public service rights in India, he mentioned Assam’s adoption of Right to Public Service Act in 2012, with subsequent amendments in 2019 and 2024.
He also introduced Seva Setu platform, which recognizes 725 citizen rights across 64 government departments, processing over 1.56 crore applications with a 90% resolution rate. Sujoy Lal Thaosen, a retired IPS officer, has been appointed as Chief Commissioner, supported by Ranjan Kumar Chakraborty and Bimal C. Oswal as members.
