Record Increase in Women Income Tax Returns Filers Across India

India has seen a significant rise in number of women filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs), increasing by 25% from 1.83 crore in AY 2019-20 to 2.29 crore in AY 2023-24. This growth highlights an expanding tax base and improved tax compliance among women across country.

Among states, Maharashtra recorded largest increase, adding 6.88 lakh women filers during this period. Uttar Pradesh followed with a 29% increase, while Gujarat saw a 24% growth.
